My Atkins Diet StoryMay 20, 2012
aka how one Iowa guy lost over 200 pounds and gained his life back. I can not say enough about how positively the Atkins Diet and low carb in general has been for me. I went from a 429 pound guy who could barely make it up a flight steps to a guy running half marathons and rejoining the National Guard. My health is fantastic, and my blood work (cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, heart) could not be better.
The Story of the Atkins Diet Part 1May 12, 2012
A profile of Dr. Robert Atkins, the diet doctor diet whose theories on nutrition have changed the way Americans think about eating. Atkins's low-carb approach and 4-step program have become an obsession for many people at a time when two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese. But the Atkins diet has its detractors, some of whom say that its emphasis on high-cholesterol foods can make it dangerous. Atkins Diet Recipes: Buffalo Wings (IF)May 19, 2012
These wings are some of the best reasons to go on the Atkins Diet. They are completely legal for all phases of the diet and absolutely delicious. The Diet Coke is a unique ingredient, but it really does the trick. I think by adding the wings to the simmering sauce, the collagen helps thicken the sauce as well. Ingredients 3 pounds chicken wings, separated at joints, tips discarded 1 cup Louisiana-style hot sauce (Franks Hot Sauce recommended) www.amazon.com 1 can Diet Coke with Splenda 1 tsp cayenne pepper, or to taste 1 tsp ground black pepper, or to taste 1/2 tsp Thyme 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder 1 tablespoon soy sauce 1/2 TBS Dried Chopped Onions Instructions: * Cut the wings into pieces. * Mix other ingredients into large pot and start simmering. * Add wings to pot to give flavor * Heat Oil to 350-375F degrees * Add wings to fryer and cook until done (12-14 minutes) * Add wings back to Buffalo sauce and coat thoroughly (IF = Induction Friendly)
Atkins Diet: Low Carb Breakfast - not necessarily like Mom madeMay 19, 2012
I deal with the question by a viewer who like I was sick of eggs and bacon, and was looking for alternative breakfast items. My criteria for a good low carb breakfast is: * has to be quick to make * has to be easy to make * has to provide enough nutrition for morning activities and mid day exercise I also suggest the valuable step of prepping for breakfast the night or the week before by chopping the vegetables or cooking the meat beforehand to expand your options. With that in mind, there are countless options for the 5-minute or less breakfast meals. I highlight my favorite 5: * Taco or Fajita Salad * Low Carb Stir Fry * Sausage Broccoli Quiche * Upside Down Low Carb Pizza * Low Carb Pancakes and Syrup (see my recipes posted on Youtube)

Atkins Diet Questions: Loose SkinMay 20, 2012
** Graphic Display of loose skin around my stomach near the end -- Viewers may want to ensure a bag is available ** Today's episode I deal with the one of the most common questions people ask me after hearing of my 200 pound weight loss. That is, "do you have much problems with loose skin?" In the end, I have to admit that I do have a bit of loose skin (I affectionately & sometime not so affectionately my "SharPei") around my torso and legs, but it could be much worse. I could have the sheets of skin some dieters (more often low Calorie big losers) have or even worse be my original weight still living in fear of loose skin. There are times that I actually like my stretchmarks as they server as reminders of what might be if I think I can lax up. It also serves as a talking point like my pathetic driver's license does for people looking for hope, but most days I am just thankful for shirts. There are other things that are claimed to help, but I have not tried. Cocoa Butter and Mederma are both used by pregnant women to ease the appearance of stretchmarks. Additionally, I believe the content of this Diet helps in maintaining the elasticity due to protein and fat being featured. The body does not cannibalize its own resources like on other diets, and many report their skin looks as good and clear as it ever had. Good skin health implies good skin elasticity to respond to the weight loss as well. One final theory about loose skin: www.bodyfatguide.com To summarize the above ...
Atkins Diet: Induction Flu: Signs of Progress or ProblemsMay 20, 2012
It is very common that I read questions or statements from new Atkineers saying, "How come I feel so tired?" "Why do I have such a headache?" "I have no energy what is this diet doing to me!" One of the problems is no one forewarned them about Induction flu. Induction flu is simply the body burning its last remaining glucose and stored glycogen for energy, and suffering withdrawal effects. It is very similar to what happens when runners "hit the wall" and cyclist "bonk." In addition to the physical withdrawal symptoms there are the mental symptoms as well. Think of drug addict, are they necessarily pleasant to be around or in high spirits even though they are doing something good. Well the carb addict has the same reaction; I personally was irritable for the first 2 or 3 weeks as I had to figure out how to eat, exert control over what entered my mouth, and regain new comfort foods. It is a dramatic change, and some people resist change. The good news is it is just temporary. It typically only last a few days, but for some the mental effects might last longer. It also shows you are on the right path and making true progress on getting rid of the excess fat. The silver lining is indeed that by the end if you continue the follow the plan you will be burning fat for fuel. You'll have to watch the video for my suggestions on how to lessen the effects.

Atkins Diet: Acceptable Low Carb SweetenersApr 17, 2012
In this video, I give my perspective on the acceptable sweeteners for those following a low carb diet. A number of new sweeteners have hit the market since Dr. Atkins wrote his book, and while I don't presume to talk for him, I am giving my perspective on the sweeteners on the market based upon personal experience and meta-analysis of the experts in the field. As with most things, your experience may differ from mine or the norm, and you may be able to consume a particular sweetener and have no side effects and continue to lose weight at the rate expected. One final note -- one thing Dr. Atkins said was our food should be as unprocessed as possible, and that we should shop the exterior of the grocery store. Most of the foods sweetened with these items are in the middle or a special health food section. The vast majority of your food on the Atkins Diet should be regular food with natural ingredients. Each day or even meal does not need a dessert to cap it off. www.medicinenet.com Acceptable Sweeteners: * Splenda (sucralose) - granulated or liquid form ( bit.ly ) * Saccharin * Stevia - Natural * Rebiana extract ( bit.ly ) * nutritionwonderland.com * www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov * Oligofructose / Inulin (www.lowcarbfreedom.com -- bit.ly * Inulin works just like fiber and is made out of plants like chicory root and isn't digested like other starches, it isn't absorbed, so it doesn't have an effect on blood sugar. * Inulin (IN-yoo-lin) is used as a test to help diagnose problems or ...
